So... I live in a miserable little community that my wife, kids and I are desperately trying to get away from. It's a small town in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. We hate it here. I cannot find ANY work as an artist and designer. Most would look at that last sentence and say, "Well, just get any other job until you can find what you're looking for."
Right. great advice, and I'd follow it, too. Yet there's an unforeseen problem with that. Number one, Michigan has the current lowest employment rate in the country. The Upper Peninsula isn't even really acknowledged by the lower portion of the state, so there really isn't any work here at all. If you have a job here, consider yourself lucky, no matter what it is. Second, I have a few issues with my health that don't allow for me to be on my feet for more than thirty minutes to an hour at a time. I'm also heat and UV light sensitive. Upon doctor's orders, I must work indoors, in air conditioning to be eligible for any work.
See, people look at me and the see a 29yearold guy who looks as if he's in peak physical condition. The problem is that all of my health issues are internal. I was diagnosed as a diabetic when I was six, and the disease is starting to take its toll, if you know what i mean. I'm not at risk of dying, I simply have limitations that i didn't have four years ago. It's a strange, lifealtering thing. And I hate it.
So, if anyone reading this has a vocational outlet for me, please feel free to let me know. Any publishers interested in picking up one of my properties, I urge you to contact me. I'm also building up a digital coloring portfolio for the comics industry. I would go back to pencilling, but in my opinion, it's just too much work for a meager amount of cash. While i do have a fanfollowing, I'd be no superstar in comics as a penciller. So, I'll let my colors do that grunt work.
I'm ready and more than willing to bust my artistic ass for you. Just give me a shot.
Thanks for listening.
